Here’s a nice comprehensive step-by-step video tutorial on how to Jailbreak your AppleTV 2 in order to install the aftermarket media server/player applications onto it.

Ever download a .dmg file of Mac software and need to burn it on your Windows PC?
The easiest way to do this is to use TransMac (a utility free for 15-day evaluation) which allows you to mount .dmg files (OS X disc image files) in Windows, see the contents and even burn them to a DVD.
- Download and Install TransMac
- Open TransMac and point it to your .dmg file
- Right-Click the mounted .dmg and select Burn to CD/DVD
VMware has provided a very cool demo for virtualizing an Android phone’s OS (so you can run multiple OS’s on a single device and switch quickly between them).
The use case for this is so that your enterprise can provide a controlled and secure OS for your phone without interfering with your existing factory OS.

Well, the Nook Color has been proven to be one of the coolest little tablets/e-readers so far.
It’s been rooted already (running android underneath the Nook interface) and has a nice preview of Honeycomb (Android 3.0) from the XDA Dev Forum.
For $249 from Barnes & Noble you can have an excellent quality color e-book reader that’s able to be rooted and from the microSD card to Honeycomb.
The latest development is that Ubuntu has been ported over to our favorite little e-reader. Check it out here:

Evernote is one of the most useful note-taking apps around but it’s only officially available for Mac (OSX) and PC (Windows).
You CAN however use Wine to allow you to run the Windows version of Evernote in Ubuntu using a few relatively simple steps (even a GUI-dependent Windows person like me can do it!) haha
Basically you run some commands to add the Wine package to Ubuntu; configure Wine to run as Windows 7; then install the Evernote windows application.
The longest part of this process was downloading/installing Wine (which I just did over WiFi @ Starbucks)

(Thanks to Zainul’s article on How-to-Geek)
- Just installed this and it’s working pretty well so far.
- Pretty similar to the iPhone with multitasking (except you get a cooler swipe when switching apps)
- The orientation lock button has been repurposed as the Mute button
- Build 2 fixes a previous Wi-Fi issue in the first build
Pretty simple upgrade process:
- Download file (this is the hardest part because of the demand right now)
- Sync iPad in iTunes (to back up your data)
- Hold Shift key, press “Check for Updates” (this will start the update process by opening a browser to point to the ipsw file (iPad1,1_4.2_8C134b_Restore)

Now jailbreaking your iPhone is easier than ever! (and since the DMCA exemption was recently passed…it’s now actually legal!)
Just browse to http://www.jailbreakme.com on your iPhone’s browser and you can jailbreak your phone and add useful apps that are currently blocked by Apple such as:
WiFiFoFum – Really nice Wi-Fi access point locator (cool radar map of close by APs) and integrates with Google Maps so you can track local APs in your area
SBSettings – with a flick of one finger you can access and manage your network settings (WiFi, BT, Edge Data, 3G Data)
Longitude - Allows you to update your Google Latitude status
Google Voice - Manage your Google Voice message
These are some pretty nifty tips for those using Google Voice. So far I’ve just been enjoying the transcribed voicemails (I rarely check voicemail anymore because of this…really useful since you can scan entire voicemails in seconds visually).

If you haven’t signed up yet, Google Voice is now open to the general public!
Apple just revealed its newest Mac Mini in a really nice unibody chassis.
Pretty slick, more power, much less power consumption, higher price…so I’m a bit torn about whether this is all good news or not.
It’s still a pretty decent system with good bang for the buck and size! That’s probably what Apple is counting on…the fact that you can get an entire desktop system that’s the size of an external hard drive AND use it as a viable media center PC.
